- Freedom of speech, at its surface, refers to only what is spoken or said, but a deeper analysis of the subject includes actions and symbolic acts which are none verbal.
- If what constitute free speech is more than what we just say, then Chris Brown is double, double guilty of abusing freedom of speech and expression for asking Ghanaians to smokes weed and afterwards start smoking the herb on stage.
- Chris might be right to smoke the leaves in his country, that’s if his federal state permit smoking it in either secret or public places. When one’s local laws allows him to do something, it becomes is right so he begins to concentrate on his right and disregard his left which is other people’s right.
- All other things been equal, what Chris Brezzy did is legal in his federal state in the U.S, but according to DSP Cephas Arthur, the laws of Ghana prohibits the possession, trafficking and the usage of marijuana.
- Looking at the RnB star’s left which is our right, the singer can be described as acting un-ethically in Ghana, because your right ends where others right begins.
- A French philosopher and a sociologists, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, once said, “man is born free and every where he is in chains” this means that, no matter how right we may be at a time, we should take into consideration the issue of ethics so as not to over exercise our right and infringe on others’ in the end.
- One may be wondering, the position of Ghanaians to judge a man who’s country started practicing Democracy and it’s related freedoms over 200 years a go. It sound good for anyone to think this way because America is the beacon of Democracy the world all over.
Kaye Grogan a freelance writer in Virginian tell how right Ghanaians can be in determining whether the American star was guilty or not. In one of Grogan’s article,: “Freedom of speech and expression ….the most abused right”, to her everybody can do what they want but that will bring us to the state of anarchy, which is not good for our world.
If an American is saying free speech and expression is the most abused right in the US, then those who think freedom of speech is limitless should think twice because if you are driving and your front tires are on the right hand-side the road but back tires on your left-hand side of the road, you block others from moving on their right-hand side of the road.
In the end, the best thing is, a little of your right, a little of other’s because we are though born free but always in chains for the good of us all don’t be un-ethical.
